Greetings!

As we wrap up from our annual Summit, we are excited about the fresh perspectives we gained through learning, sharing and connecting with attendees. We also are excited to announce the addition of our newest board member, an important new article on access to claims data, and our open enrollment process for new members of the Clinical Business Intelligence Network.

4th Annual Lean Healthcare Transformation Summit a Success

Thank you to everyone who attended this year's Summit - it was a great success! Attendance was the best yet, with nearly 600 participants from eight countries, 39 states, and 181 healthcare organizations.

This year's Summit, co-hosted by the Lean Enterprise Institute, featured keynotes from John Toussaint, MD, Francois de Brantes, Paul O'Neill, Alan Gleghorn and Jim Womack. The Summit also included a CEO panel discussion that offered advice on engaging board members and C-suite leaders, discussed the current state of transparency, and explained how lean principles can support payment reform.

Our breakout sessions covered a variety of topics from healthcare business intelligence to pitching lean to physicians to creating a lean framework for strategic planning.

To get a better glimpse inside this year's Summit, read our blog post, review the Twitter feed, or enjoy these content recaps:

Next year's Summit is scheduled for June 4-5, 2014. Mark your calendars and watch for details in coming months.

JAMACenter CEO Co-Authors New JAMA Article
Center CEO John Toussaint, MD, co-authored
The Need for Access to Medicare Fee-for-Service Claims Data, an article for The Journal of the American Medical Association. The article highlights the need for healthcare providers to have access to Medicare fee-for-service data.

Dr. Toussaint co-wrote the article with Donald Berwick, MD, former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The article focuses on two provisions of the Affordable Care Act that significantly impede access to and use of Medicare claims data. It recommends legislative and non-legislative changes to allow freer access to this data.
